Using video scenarios to show the challenges of flexible work practices

Flexible work practices are here: as an engagement and retention tool they simply cannot be ignored. And it is not only the stereotypical "mother starting a family" employee who is wanting and expecting flexible options for how they work. Gen Y's are attracted to a year off to travel; older workers want time to balance commitments to their grandchildren. Increasingly, employees from all works of life are recognising that it is okay to ask for options, and the responsibility invariably falls to their manager.

Many companies have flexible work policies but know that implementation is a challenge. To aid them, Aequus Partners, a leading Sydney-based management consultancy specialising in flexibility and diversity, set to work developing an e-learning tool to help managers understand the issues and have the confidence to implement them. The tool follows the journey of a manager from flexibility sceptic to flexibility champion, a scenario interwoven with the learning content.

Aequus Partners sourced Straight Media for our expertise in video-based scenarios, a key part of the learning process of the tool. Using the manager scenario written by Aequus Partners, we developed a script, cast actors, directed the shoot, and edited and encoded the videos ready for online delivery. Flex-e is the resulting learning tool, which is now available by contacting Aequus Partners at the link below, or by phone on (02) 9810 7176.
