Working in Asia requires a different perspective
Despite the current economic gloom, the economies of Asia are racing ahead of even the most optimistic predictions. As a result it's an increasingly attractive business environment for Australians. There are opportunities across the region; and there are just as many challenges to working there.
This video was created as a primer for employees interested in relocating to Asia, as an eye-opener to the realities of life and work in a place that's different in so many ways. Climate, language, expectations, culture and population all play a part.
In the early stages of development we recognised that the video must carefully avoid stumbling over cultural sensitivities, and likewise avoid throwing potential expats into a panic. Instead, the video offers would-be travellers two important lessons: let go of your assumptions about Asia, and be flexible in how you meet the challenges that it presents.
The video is a reminder that "Asia" is a short-hand term for the largest continent and the most diverse and varied place on Earth.
Shown to an audience at a national sales conference in the Northern Territory and presented by an Aussie expat, "Working In Asia" became a memorable talking point for the delegates and launched a thought-provoking discussion.
